Unable to find the war he has been asked to cover, a frustrated war correspondent takes the risky path of co-opting the identity of a dead arms-deal acquaintance.

A couple formed by a 40-year-old former writer who has fallen into alcoholism, and a beautiful young woman 20 years his junior, is struggling. They will meet again after a dramatic event, which occurred during a stay in Haiti.

When his brother runs away to join the army during WWI, a young African boy stows away on a ship and travels to Europe in an effort to locate him.
