In 1847 a mysterious epidemic is raging in a maternity clinic in Vienna, while the doctor Ignác Semmelweis tries to defeat puerperal fever by going against all traditional theories.

A toy designer visits her grandmother in Hungary during Christmas and helps at a holiday market, where she reconnects with heritage and finds love while crafting toys with a local carpenter.
