As France is nearing the end of the first Indochina War, an open-minded teenage boy finds himself torn between a rebellious urge to discover love, and the ever-present, almost dominating affection of his beloved mother.

Damien and Pierre, two high school students, murder an unknown woman previously spotted on the street.

Marie, a teenager, and her little brother Vincent, five years old, have just lost their mother. They decide to send a telegram to their father who has abandoned them for a long time, and go together to find him.
