Romance sparks between a young woman and a young man from different economic backgrounds during China's Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and '70s.

Jinrong lives in a fortress with her father and other warriors. When the fortress is threatened by an enemy army, her father sends her to ask for aid. Away from home, it turns out that Jinrong is not as strong as she thought.
