A traveling magician and his assistants are persecuted by authorities in Sweden of the 19th century. Their capture, however, didn't bring victory to those in power.

In 1897 Swedish engineer S. A. Andrée with 2 colleagues prepares to fly over the North Pole in his balloon "Eagle".

On an island, a barber's wife opens an illegal brothel, exploiting their underage daughter. Distraught, the barber plots to permanently remove his wife as customers visit the establishment.
